BOREALIS PROGRAM

UiS Aerospace’s suborbital program developing sounding rockets launched annually from Space Port Helleland at Støla, Norway. The program intends to give new members experience in aerospace engineering acting as a stepping stone to other projects within the organization and a career in aerospace engineering.

Avionics

Designs and produces the onboard avionics in order to ensure data collection, radio communication, and deployment of the parachutes of the rocket in flight (optional). A multidisciplinary team taking on challenges such as PCB design, electrical engineering and software development.

Mechanical Engineering

The mechanical engineering group designs and produces the rocket’s fuselage, fin assembly, and inner structure. Key challenges involve ensuring that the rocket survives the acceleration during lift-off as well as the forces acted on the rocket during parachute deployment and landing.

Launch System

The launch system team develops and maintains the launch rail necessary to guide the rocket in the initial moments of its flight, as well as the ignition systems for the rocket motor to send the rocket skywards.

X PROGRAM

The X Program is UiS Aerospace’s daring mission to become among the world’s first students to reach space. The 2024 team is primarily tasked with producing and testing the BERSERKR 100 JNH liquid fuelled rocket engine, designed by UiS Aerospace.
